Next steps after notification of liability to be registered has been made

14. Once the initial application and notification of liability to be registered for tax has been completed as above, we will then:

  • verify the details that you have provided and send you an activation code through the post to the registered company address, or the business address provided at time of registration;
  • send you confirmation of your SLfT registration number by post to your registered company or business address. This is confirmation from us that you will be registered for SLfT with effect from 1 April 2015 (or the first date after then from which you expect to make taxable disposals – this is the ‘Date of first expected taxable disposal’ you entered in step 6 or step 8, whichever applies). It is important that these details are checked once the confirmation is received – if there are any inaccuracies you need to notify us (see SLfT4008).
  • if you stated in step 10 that you have a Controller on any of these sites, we will write to the Controller and ask them to confirm their status at the individual site. They will need to sign and return this to us.  This must be completed before confirmation of registration will be sent.

15. Once you receive your activation code, you must log onto our Online Portal within 21 days to confirm the account registration. This account will be provided with Administrator rights. See the ‘Administrator Account’ section of this guidance for further information on Administrator rights.

Please note:

Each time you log into your account, you will be required to enter your username and password, followed by a one-time passcode that will be emailed to your email address. The first time you log in, you will be required to enter your username and password, followed by a one-time passcode, before you enter your Authentication Code.
