The convener of the Law Society’s Tax Committee has commented on Revenue Scotland’s “intuitive and modern” online Land and Building Transaction Tax system.

Speaking after being given a demonstration of the system, which is currently undergoing user testing,  Isobel d’Inverno said:

“The LBTT online system is user friendly and intuitive, with a very modern look and feel, and the returns themselves are much shorter, and do not require so much of the non-tax related information which has to be included in SDLT returns.”

Eleanor Emberson, Chief Executive of Revenue Scotland, said:

“I’m delighted that we’ve had such a positive response to this demonstration of the online system from the Law Society. Our intention was always to develop a system that is user-friendly and easy to access, and solicitors will be the main users of the system.  We will be continuing to work with the Law Society and others to ensure the system goes live smoothly on 1 April.”

A group of future users, including solicitors and others involved in conveyancing, has been set up to test the online system, with the first testing session getting underway next week.
