The team behind Revenue Scotland has scooped the prestigious Innovation Award at a Government Finance and Internal Audit event in Birmingham.

Hosted by the National Audit Office and PWC the event, attended by more than 900 delegates from across the UK civil service,  was a showcase of best practice in internal audit and government finance.

Revenue Scotland’s Tax Administration Programme team, represented by former Programme Director Murdoch Macleod and former Programme Manager JohnPaul Liddle, won the innovation award for the Tax Administration Programme team’s strong focus on collaboration and consultation with stakeholders, the delivery of  tangible benefits to those using the Revenue Scotland service and the embedded ethos of applying lessons learned to future work.

Welcoming the award win, Chair of Revenue Scotland, Dr Keith Nicholson, said:

“The dedication and hard work shown by Revenue Scotland’s Tax Administration Programme  team to ensure we launched on time was exemplary, and it is gratifying it has been acknowledged with this award, which follows the team’s success at the Scottish Public Service Awards last year, where they won the Project and Programme Management Award.

“Collaboration and consultation with stakeholders underpins the work of Revenue Scotland, and will become even more important as we prepare to administer new taxes which will flow from the Smith Commission. This award underlines that Revenue Scotland is well placed to meet the challenges that the next stage of our work as Scotland’s national tax authority will bring.”

Deputy First Minister John Swinney said:

“With the launch of Revenue Scotland last year, Scotland took control of collecting and managing some of our own taxes for the first time in 300 years.

“The legal, financial, leadership and operational tax experts at Revenue Scotland worked incredibly hard to ensure a smooth introduction of Land and Buildings Transaction Tax and Scottish Landfill Tax, and I congratulate them on their award.

And Chief Executive of Revenue Scotland, Eleanor Emberson, added:

“I am immensely proud of the entire team, and this award is another well-deserved acknowledgment of their excellent work.  The lessons learned and the experience gained by the team will now benefit other projects and programmes across the Scottish Government.”
